I Green Day sono un gruppo musicale pop punk statunitense formatosi a Berkeley nel 1986. I componenti sono: Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt e Trè Cool che nel 1990 sostituì il batterista Al Sobrante il quale abbandonò il gruppo a causa dei suoi impegni di studio. Jason White è stato il quarto membro ufficiale del gruppo dal 2012 al 2016.
Hanno pubblicato 5 album degli anni 90 come: “39/Smooth”, “Kerplunk”, “Dookie” con le principali canzoni “Pulling teeth” col celebre ritornello “For now I’ll lie around Hey that’s all I can really do she takes good care of me Just keep saying my love it’s true”, “Basket case” col celebre ritornello “Sometimes I give myself the creeps Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me It all keeps adding up I think I’m cracking up Am I just paranoid or I’m just stoned” e “When I come around col principale ritornello “No time to search the world go round ‘Cause you know where I’ll be found When I come around”.
Hanno pubblicato altri due album degli anni 90 come “Insomniac” e “Nimrod”. Nel 2000 pubblicarono “Warning” con la canzone omonima e “Minority”. Il ritornello di Warning è “Warning live without warning I say Warning live without warning Without allright” e il ritornello di Minority è “I wanna be the Minority I don’t need your authority Down with the moral majority ‘Cause I wanna be the minority”.
Nel 2004 pubblicarono “American Idiot” con la canzone omonima che come ritornello fa: “Welcome to a new kid of tension All across the alienation Everything isn’t meant to be ok. Television dreams of tomorrow We’re not the ones who’re meant to follow For that’s enough to argue” e “Boulevard of broken dreams” col celebre ritornello “My shadow’s the only one that walks beside me My shallow heart’s the only thing that’s beating Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me Till then I walk alone”. Nel 2009 pubblicarono “21st century breakdown col brano 21 guns. L’ultimo album dei Green Day è “Father of all motherfuckers”. Altro grande successo è “Wake me up when September ends”,
